About

Hi, I am Deb Deems and I live in Dallastown, PA and I am a dog lover. To be more exact an English Springer Spaniel lover. Now don’t get me wrong, whenever I see a dog I get the urge to walk up to he or she and make friends. However, when I see an English Springer Spaniel, wild horses can’t drag me away! And if he or she is a puppy, I get the urge to be a new mother and immediately start searching online for available pups!

I am currently the mother of my third Springer. While I do not consider myself an expert, I have certainly learned a lot since my first baby boy. I do not know much about girls, since all my babies were boys. My first baby boy, “Sprocket” was a calm, sweet lovable pup. And the reason he was so calm, was he was a sick dog. Allergies were the culprits and there were many! So after this vet, and that vet, and try this and try that, and nothing helped him at 1 and ½ years my husband, Jim and I agreed the best thing we could do for him was to spare him anymore pain and agony. Lesson 1: Buy from a reputable breeder!

My second boy, “Spencer” was much more active as a pup. Even though Springers are known for their allergy issues, Spencer’s allergy issues were his ears. Ear infections, itchy ears happened quite often. Every time your dog has ear infection his ear tissue in the canal gets thicker trying to fight the infection making the ears more difficult to clean and keep clean. However, Spencer did live a good live and passed away at the age of 12 years. Lesson 2: Springer’s ears need weekly cleaning!

My third boy, “Eliot” was by far the most active as a pup! I even had second thoughts about keeping him, but just for a moment! He was a very dominant pup, but with dog training classes and long walks every day, he turned out to be a good boy. He is quite handsome and has a very good bloodline. He was purchased from the breeder KayNDee in York, PA. His great grand father is Salilyn’s Condor (call name Robert) who won Best of Show in Westminster in 1993. Lesson 3: Read about training your dog or take classes!

These are only three of the many lessons I learned about Springers and dogs in general. I am sure there are many dog lovers who have lots of advice for a new dog mom.
If only I knew what I know now three dogs ago………..
